Nature is undoubtedly the main source of inspiration of Amande Haeghen. In particular the Arcachon’s bassin that rocked her childhood, deeply traced the curves of her style and the Dune du Pyla which, like a strong and gentle mother, soothed her child’s gaze, and more recently the beautiful Portuguese coasts.
But it is also her relationship to the body, to the woman more precisely, which is constantly changing and evolving in the course of a life that interferes with her research and forms.
The manufacture of the sculptures, is entirely handmade, is an alchemical work of the transformation of the material that results from the relationship between materials, shapes and light. The glass and the clay, which her cuts by hand in complete freedom in the total absence of any pattern, are drawn in a choreography of the sensual hand, in feminine and organic curves.
Touching, refining, drawing, cutting, deforming, cooking and putting together so many gestures that soothe her and give her a lot of joy and tenderness. Glass, on the other hand, cannot be tamed without restraint. It has to be scratched, sliced, cooked to deform it. It takes place in my ceramic furnaces to twist, melt and reborn. Like an incessant motherhood, she always makes by hand, never twice, the same object, all coming from the same lineage but each one has its own temperament.
It is the result of a long research effort to achieve this delicate balance between materials that inspire contrary feelings, softness and strength but also transparency and shadows. Her strongest desire through these creations is the idea of being able to freeze the elusive, take the imprint of an eternal memory, capture time. This impression of stealing time through the touch and work of the material gives her immense pleasure.
She works between Paris and Lisbon where she moved in 2021 and where she opened the « House of Haeg » in the heart of Anjos, more than a personal studio, the place works like an artistic residency with spaces dedicated to the work of glass and ceramic.
